The Office of Student Accessibility Services

The Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine (HMSOM) provides a supportive environment for qualified medical students with disabilities by providing the opportunity for full and equal participation in the School community. HMSOM complies with Federal and State Laws prohibiting discrimination against any applicant or enrolled student on the basis of disability.

Policy Statement:

  • A Disability is generally defined as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.
  • Qualified medical students with Disabilities may apply for reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to the School’s Educational Program.
  • The reasonable accommodation process addresses both the didactic and clinical settings of the medical education program beginning with Phase 1 of instruction.
  • A reasonable accommodation will not, however, waive the essential requirements of the School’s program curriculum.
