Graduate Medical Education

Our SOM intends to create a culture that thrives across all stages of a physician’s development. To further this mission, we have created graduate medical education programs across HMH that will share the culture and mission of the SOM and creates alignment of our students, residents, fellows and faculty.

Traditional medical education has resulted in silos isolating undergraduate medical education (medical students), graduate medical education (residents/fellows) and continuing medical education (practicing physicians). Such isolation does not well serve our trainees, our profession, or our patients and communities. Our SOM intends to create a culture that thrives across all stages of a physician’s development. To further this mission, we have created graduate medical education programs across HMH that will share the culture and mission of the SOM and creates alignment of our students, residents, fellows and faculty. In addition to our faculty, we regard our residents and fellows as critical teachers for our students and will create a strong infrastructure to support “residents as teachers.”

All students selecting the Phase 3 option of direct entrance into residency will enter into a residency program within the Hackensack Meridian Health network, as described here.
